With feeling going out of my toes we left the Royal Palace and saw a Church behind us but didn't quiet know what it was so we just walked into the side door. Well it turns out that we ended up at the Museo de la Catedral y Cupolo, it was a msueum dedicated to the history of the church and the archdioces of the Madrid and had information on Pope John Paul II's visit to Madrid. It was actually super interesting. It is not a huge museum but you are making your way up through the tower of it and end up on a walkway over looking the top of the Church and then you end up on the outside overlooking the Cathedral and Madrid. It is absolutely stunning up there and toatlly worth the pinched toes.
We then headed into the Church actually Catedral de Nuestra Senora de la Almudena. Europe is filled with Churches but this one has an interesting history. Carlos I first proposed building a Cathedral in 1518 but construction did not get under way until the 1880s and it was not finished until 1992. On Pope John Paul II's fourth trip to Spain in June 1993 he conscreated it, it was the first Spanish Cathedral conscreated by a Pope and the first consecrated by Pope John Paul II outside of Rome.
Bridget and I still seemed out of sorts and seemed to be walking thru the wrong doors haha. This Church was definitely different than other Cathedrals I have been in.
